I want to learn how to check my cervix position to chart it while I am trying to conceive. I guess I don'tknow my body well enough. Can you give me some pointers on how to find it? What position is best? What do I look for?

Also, is this a question that I can ask my Dr about and (this sounds sick) can they help me find it during a pelvic exam?

Your cervix is as firm as the end of your nose, shaped like a disk and has a small hole in the middle. It is usually located at the very top of your vagina or towards the front of your body.

Many women can not feel their own cervix, this is perfectly normal.

There are easier ways to chart ovulation such as saliva tests, urine tests, and basal body temperature.

However charting and only having sex certain days may not help you get pregnant, because if you screw up the calculations etc then you will miss. I recommend having sex every other day or more and it will happen.

It is quite easy to locate your cervix once u get the hang of it..I located mine very easily after only a couple times. The two best positions for this is either sitting on the toilet or squatting,i always used the toilet,i found it much easier...Make sure your hands are cleaned well before doing this. Take your middle finger and slowly slide it into the vaginal opening moving upwards towards your belly button...u will notice either one of 2 things...Either you will be able to feel something bulgy like and very soft or something kinda stiff and kinda feels like the tip of your nose, like cartilage of some sort. Before your menstrual period u will see a change in your cervical position,it will lower into your vagina and easy for u to locate, actually very easy...That is when u are not fertile...U are most fertile when you feel that your cervix sits very high and hard or almost unable to be able to reach,if u can reach it then u will notice it to be very very soft and wet, kinda like your lips...Now this takes practice and u may not get it right away but keep trying and u will learn what to look for..Yes u can ask your doctor to help you as well, this is not a gross question but a very smart one...Good luck!

it will take a few cycles for you to see a definite pattern. do it the same time everyday, and in the same position starting after your period. you can ask your doc about it, its a pretty common practice for women that are trying to conceive. I just reread your ? and would like to add that your cervix will rise up and become soft just before you ovulate and then go back down to its standard low hard and closed. mine would usually get low and soft right before AF.. but everyone is different so whats normal for one may not be for another.

You can probably reach your cervix best either sitting on the toilet or standing with one foot up on something (like the side of the tub).

When you are fertile, your cervix is "SHOW" which means:

SOFT
Normally, your cervix feels kind of firm, like the tip of your nose. When you are ovulating, it is softer, more like your cheeks or your lips.

HIGH
Obviously this is comparitive. When you are ovulating it will be higher up than the rest of your cycle and harder to reach.

OPEN
Normally your cervix is closed up and you'll just feel a very slight dimple in the middle of it. When you are ovulating, it is open. You'll feel a small hole in the middle and may be able to slightly insert your fingertip. Purse your lips like your going to give someone a big kiss...that's kind of what it feels like.

WET
When you are ovulating you'll have an increase in cervical fluids. The best kind of cervical mucous is commonly refered to as "egg white cervical mucous." It is clear and stretchy, very similar to egg whites.

I have never heard of a person doing this. I wouldn't think it would be necessary to conceive, but then again what do I know?

i was told by a gyn doctor don't even try this all you will do is cause an infection since fingernails are very nasty. no matter how clean your hands are.. this is not needed to conceive in fact its unneeded period. don't do that leave those things to the trained medical professionals please
