Cause is most likely moisture. It can be removed by wiping with a solution of bleach and water. Four parts water, one part bleach
is about right. To keep it from returning as often, you can use a product like "I Hate Mildew". Its a spray that will keep the mold and mildew from returning for up to two years. You can get it from Mary Ellen Products, online at www.maryellenproducts.com

Condensation is the cause. The humidity in your house is too high relative to the outdoor temp. Use a mild detergent and water solution to clean. Contrary to popular belief, bleach will not clean or kill the mold. Install a dehumidifier to reduce the humidity indoors. Feel free to email me with any questions.
