It seems our men and women who have actually seen first hand the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have a better attitude than our civilians. Why is it that so many of us fat comfortable people sitting at home feel we are qualified to make judgments about these wars?

Most people at home get their information from the media that has a vendetta against Bush for marginalizing them. The media brainwashing campaign poses one sided anti-administration stories that are false and endanger, not help, the troops.

Temp changes? Optimistic. I am hoping the dems lose big time. If they lose and start having to actually compromise and make decisions that are for the good of everyone, then we may be able to start doing something of value. We could start by droping income tax in half and making it a tax on products and a carbon tax. The overall effect to us would be nil for the average consumer, but we could drastically change the direction of the country. Imagine if you will, taxing recycled material at a lower cost. How much would that increase recycling? Imagine a carbon tax that would not hit the middle class wallet? How cool would that be? It would be entirely market driven, with the govt to provide a general direction. Beyond that, we are porbably no more than 20 years away from having e-cars take over the market. With a little push form the govt in a carbon tax (with associated reduction of income tax attached to the bill) it could happen in 10-15 years. A little push for nuclear power, which you know the conservatives would be behind, and we may be able to dethrone Coal as king. The path to change, however, has to be an intelligent move, motivated by rational decision making. Not the scare everyone to death or the deny there is even a problem as seen in the partisan politics that have been occurring.

Most of the dissent comes from the "Blame America First" crowd, which believes that the US is always to blame for whatever ill befalls anyone anywhere on the face of the globe, and that any evil despot is always preferable to American leadership.

They felt Ho Chi Minh was the good guy, and many are still bemoaning the departure of Saddam Hussein. They're the same ones who would have been yapping about how "We were attacked by Japan and yet we're fighting Germans" during WWII.

They have yet to find anything good to say about the US or our leaders, preferring to complain ad nauseam about every single mistake American leaders have made, while spinning apologia for the despot of the week in the next breath.

By and large our fighting menand women are not optimistic. For exaample, a petition from hundreds of them calling for an end to American involvement in Iraq is going to be presented to Congress this month.

You don't think BushCo is going to let any of our troops oveer ther near a reporter who is going to tell the truth, do you? The only ones the media are allowed access to are the ones who will toe the party line.

As a solider you have to stay optimistic-you can't go into a war you don't believe in-you'll most likely get killed if you don't do all you can to protect yourself and your troops. As for civilians we want the soldiers to come back and to be safe because this war is pointless and too many lives have already been taken

It's because they HAVE seen it first hand and they have not be corrupted by media, news and opinions. They see all the GOOD that is going on and how the people have been helped.
I agree with your point, chair jockeys should zip it!
Also, if you voted for Bush then go enlist is not a valid argument. Where were you in Somalia?
What "payback" did he dish out for the Embassy bombings and the USS Cole?

Those fighting in Iraq know the truth. Those of us here only see what the media want us to see.

Because Dan Rather, Wolf Blitzer, and Charlie Gibson are telling them how to feel about the war.

We know what's going on here and know that we HAVE to win.

All we ask is that you give us the tools and allow us the opportunity to win.

It's not your fault. The actor that plays the Delta Force assaulter in Black Hawk Down, pretty much sums up, why it is impossible for you to know why we do it.
