owls are birds of prey.
there are night time owls and daytime owls. most are out around dusk.
they have soft feathers so that they make no noise when flying.
they have one ear higher than the other to help pinpoint sounds.
they can see in very low light. but cant see in total darkness(this is where the ears help).
they eat rodents and other small mammals.
the largest european owl is the eagle owl.
the largest british owl is the snowy owl.
the smallest is the little owl.
owls swallow their prey hole and pass the bones and fur out in pellets.

If you REALLY want to have kids have fun learning about owls. Buy some owl pellets for dissection. They are great and very educational. Owls can't digest all the hair, feathers and bones they eat so they spit them out as a pellet every day. The pellets are usually heat treated to kill germs. See link for more details:

owls? umm... You could look in your public library. Look under non fiction and then look for an owl book. THere are videos on owls. Nat'l geographic might have a book or mag on it.
