I agree. As I watched last night, I was thinking to myself, "Gee.....I could've sworn this was a show about finding talented singers, not wierd people." I could do without the Idol wanna-be's. I just want to hear some singing! I love that 16 year old girl that sang, "You're going to love me". She was great!

As I've said elsewhere, it was disgusting. OK, so some people can't sing and don't look good. You don't have to let them pass through three rounds of judges to give them the illusion they have talent only to let them be humiliated before the three national judges on nationwide TV. They should have just been politely told earlier in the process that they weren't in the running and then let go. (I know very little about music, but I could have done a better job of screening than this.) This reminded me of the kind of crap snotty kids pulled in high school to make fun of mentally challenged students. If America gets its jollies from watching these poor souls ridiculed by bullies, then they deserve the same fate as the teenagers in Carrie. What a sick bunch of garbage. And the judges are SUCH big name talents themselves, right?

No, I'd rather watch the losers. In fact, after the first few episodes, I will not watch the rest ofthe show. Seeing the freaks, the sad delusional people who think they can sing is the best part of the show. Is it wrong to take enjoyment from someone else's misery? Sure, but it's fun. That kid who wanted to be a rock singer and sang every song in that same husky Metallica voice (including the ABBA song that Simon told him to sing)... was it sad when he broke down crying afterwards? A little. But was it funny when he sang "Dancing Queen" like he was the lead singer of Megadeath? Hell yeah!
Someone who loved them, a friend, a relative, etc., should have taken them aside a long time ago and said, "Dude, it's not working. You suck. Seriously think about pursuing another line of work." I'd rather hurt them a little now than have some stranger do it to them later. I mean, what parent would stand there and tell their kid they have the greatest voice in the world when they KNOW they don't? Who wouldn't want to be honest to their kids? I blame the parents...

Yes, I was disappointed. I'm not really comfortable with other people's pain, so I don't really enjoy watching them smash the dreams of the less talented. Besides, who says those judges are the standard by which talent is chosen....I bet there are a lot of famous pop singers who would have been kicked off the show if they tried out today simply because they are unique (Rod Stewart for example....)
I was disappointed when they chose Carrie Underwood, no matter how talented she is the world doesn not need another barbie blond country singer....one of a million, not in a million

Yeah, I do. But they are only going to show you want they want you to see, the most talented in "their" opinion. Here a couple years back a contestant was eliminated and complained that the reason why was because she didn't get enough coverage. I think for the most part that is most likely true. She was a talented singer, I don't recall who that was now, but she deserved to continue on and others be eliminated instead.

Watching all the no talented people attempt to sing is great for rating. Just look at who's on yahoo home page. But I do wish they would cut to the chase and show those people who really have a vocally gift.

I actually did write down seven names. Took notes. Pathetic, eh? I wanna see if any of the ones that make it in the beginning make it till the end. I would like them to concentrate more on the winners and not the awful ones but the others junk is what gets the ratings, I think.

I so agree with you! I just finished watching two hours of the Seattle audition. It just wasn't fun watching at all. I thought Randy, Paula, and Simon were ALL somewhat cruel to some of the candidates. And we rarely got to see any of the talent coming through. Let's hope the Hollywood auditions will be more enjoyable! Good question... thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I think that's the point by the network...makes for a more interesting series when this talented person comes out of the woodwork.
