The airpoirt in Mexico City is safe, if your flight is going to connect in Mexico City, you don't have to be worried, it's ok!! The danger is outside, in the street, this airport has a good security as any in other cities around the world.

Mexico City airport is as safe as any other very large airport anywhere.
Use comon sense, dont flash money around, check your bags to destination if possible, dont leave bags or belongings unatended, keep cameras, computers, documents, plane tickets, etc. out of sight.
International arrival is a ten minute walk, within the airport, to local departure. You do not need to leave the main building, just gather your stuff and stroll, inside the airport, to your departure gate.
There are lots of stores with all sorts of goodies, or you can wait and shop in acapulco or on your return trip.

Have a great holiday.

The Mexico City airport is safe, you just need to keep your things with you at all times, as you should in any airport. It's very big as well, so it is easy to get lost. And if you have trouble communicating with anyone, nearly all the people working there speak English.
