I have an older one and it will not play it.

No, the newer PS2 cannot play blue ray disks.
In order to play blue ray disks a Blue Ray Rom is essential and a must.
Sony PS3 has BD ROM thats why it can play Blue ray disks.
But if you tell about the blue dvds.
I have a newer PS2 [750004] .ya it can play the normal blue dvd discs.

if u mean the old purplish, blue disks then yes. blu-ray then no. u have an older one, thats when the purplish disks were used. if u r talking about the purplish ones those are just cds.
