why are online role playing games so addictive?

im asking out of curiosity cuz ive never played them and also because im doing a project. any people that play it or know people that play it thank you for your answers.

I play World of Warcraft, and I was addicted, really bad. I am kinda bored of it now, but I think at first I was so hooked because of the people mainly. Playing with 40 people and chatting with them is fun.

Then there is the game itself. There is no real end to the game, you play and play to get better. Better gear, and all that... so you need to play, and the more you play the better you are...

i think it is simply the sense of accomplishment and enjoyment. despite not having any real value (can't help you in school, etc). the objective in the game is to get better at the game. you usually don't even have to be good at an mmorpg, you just need time and a devotion to the game. you want to get to the next level so you can get new stuff and have a better character. you know that you put effort into it, and you see that your character grows as a result of that, and feel a wee bit prouder. Then you go the next level, and the next, and the next. Can't go any higher? then go get cool gear and spells. playing with friends just makes it even funner and gives you something to talk about.

i dont know i play runescape and it is really addictive,i thinks its because you can just keep playing and playing and there is no ultimate oblective.
