Because I have deep pores I frequently have trouble with ingrown hairs. I have made some really horrible looking wounds on my face trying to find and pull out the hair. It took me a long time to learn what to do. Nothing!
The more you press on it, the larger it will swell, and the larger it swells, the harder it is to extract the hair. My advice is to leave the spot alone. Yes, it will take it a while to go away, but your skin cells will eventually push the hair to the surface. Don't scrub it, or put pressure on it. If you do anything, put a little Oxy on it. The more your skin drys and peels, the faster the hair will come to the surface.
Again it may take several weeks for the swelling to go down and the hair to come to the surface, but the way it looks now is better than having a massive red, swollen, bloody wound caused from picking at it.

well, you shouldn't be popping it. the first thing you have to do is spot the ingrown hair. then use tweezers to pull it to the surface, but don't pluck it. i'm a black male and i get ingrown hairs at times, not as much as i used to once i learned how to take care of my face. the faces of men, besides the ability to grow hair, are no different than womens. and women really know how to take care of their faces. you should be drinking plenty of water, use a good face scrub before going to bed to remove the dirt and oils that clog pores. also, a moisturizer to keep your face from drying out and to keep the wrinkles at bay. avoid the sunlight and take precautions with a sunscreen..and use a search engine to find the website for the art of shaving..they have some products there for ingrown hairs..
good luck

Sounds like an ingrown hair - will stay swollen and full of gunk until you get the hair out. You can try to extract it with tweezers or a needle. Get the instrument under the hair, if you can see it, and pull straight up to dislodge the ingrown part, then pull out the hair completely. You might get your wife/mom/sister/girlfriend to help you. After you get the hair out put on a disinfectant - hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol or a treatment for scrapes like Neosporin - to prevent further infection. If you can't get the hair out go to a dermatologist.

You may have Folliculitis, it its not getting better see a doctor for antibiotics. See this article from Mayo Clinic
With common names like hot tub folliculitis and barber's itch, folliculitis may sound more like a bad joke than a skin disorder. But folliculitis, an infection of the hair follicles, is no laughing matter. Severe cases may cause permanent hair loss and scarring, and even mild folliculitis can be uncomfortable and embarrassing.
Folliculitis usually appears as small, white-headed pimples around one or more hair follicles — the tiny pockets from which each hair grows. Most infections are superficial, and although they may itch, they're seldom painful. Superficial folliculitis often clears by itself in a few days, but deep or recurring folliculitis may need medical treatment.
