Why haven't any bands tried to be as great as them?

I guess you may feel that way but I believe that must of us may have a different option. When I was a teen it was Led Zeppelin then KISS, (can you believe that?) RUSH and Pink Floyd.

As an adult today (47 years old) I have a much broader taste in music, rock n roll, new age and JAZZ. All of witch I have my favorites in each category.

As for the Rock I'd take Dream Theater or Rush over Metallica. some day I'll own one of their Cd's..BLACK?

They're not. Everyone has different measures of greatness look at The Cure they've been going strong for about 26 years now and sell out massively around the world yet they have had maybe 2 top ten hits in the US.

Metallica has done the same yet who is the greater?

There are great bands but there is no one great band that's why you have different genres. Metallica maybe the greatest heavy metal band but i think Iron Maiden may give them some fair competition in that genre.

The reason I believe Metallica is considered by so many to be the "best metal band" is due to the fact that yes they were metal, but they had an extremely user friendly sound to them. They were metal but at the same time appealed to a broader audience then say bands of the similar genre such us Slayer, Megadeth, or Testament just to name a few. There are much better musicians in the world of metal such as John Petrucci of Dream Theatre or Joe Satriani as far as guitarist go.
Also it depends on musical stylings that you prefer I listen to just about everything but there are definitely better bands in my opinion and thats pretty much all you can say is that they're the best in your opinion. Just thought I would share my two cents.

Slow the horses,my friend.Metalllica is not a good band.Perhaps is the best band in making cheap noise. But music,no way. Those guys were a bunch of maniacs with not talent.Try AC/DC or Judas,or Ozzy,or Iron,or Let Zeppelin etc. But,please Metallica sound like a old car, perhaps T Model.

Every band tried to be as great as their heroes. Every metal band wants to be as great as Metallica or Black Sabbath. Every emo band tries to be as great as The Cure or AFI. Every hard rock band tries to be as great as AC/DC or Led Zep.

However, not every band has the talent or the resources that their heroes do. Great bands are frequently the result of a lucky break. That does not mean that they don't share the same drive and determination as the great bands do.

hi KP. this could be a large question, and that i'm now very curious myself. I do think of assorted it relies upon on what appropriate definition of "metallic" we are working from, aka in spite of if bands like AC/DC (as somebody stated), Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin are admissible. besides the undeniable fact that, employing the "down the Black Sabbath genealogy" definition that maximum folk severe metallic followers adhere to, i'm completely with you on those alternatives. the only "4th band" i ought to even think of to those 3 is Judas Priest, yet i don't think of even they are fairly the sell that those giants are. My instinct says that Sabbath has the perfect shot at prevalent album revenues, Metallica has the perfect shot at cost ticket revenues, considering that they are traveling greater often than any band this element of the Ramones, and Maiden actually has the international attractiveness locked down. yet i don't be attentive to for specific. permit me bypass seem and see what I see. BA: Sabbath - Megalomania Maiden - Phantom of the Opera Metallica - No be apologetic approximately

That is your opinion. There are many bands out there that have extreme talent. You might try, instead of listening to a local radio station or the same old cd's to broaden your knowledge of music and check out different types of genre. You might find that there are many bands as good as and better that what you think is the best right now...

Because they rock, and have been for over 20 years. That's a difficult thing to accomplish in the music industry. Society tends to get bored rather quickly with a lot of bands. But Metallica has withstood a lot.
