Definitely. Just think about it for a moment. You define how you experience and react to the world. If something bad happens, you get upset. Perhaps if someone was angering you, you might say "stop it, you're making me angry", but actually it is yourself who is deciding to become angry as a reaction to the act of another person. So if you can shift your mind to think of things in terms of positive potential and negative potential, you can be aware of all opportunities that arise, even ones that come from unfortunate events. Meditate and reflect on compassion. Oh, and just for some proof...( http://www.markroth.com/mouth/2005_04.php )here's a link to a study where they ran an EEG on some monks while they meditated and the regions associated with happiness and positive thinking lit up way beyond normal. In my SciAm:MIND magazine, they talked about one monk who's "happy" sections lit up so "bright" he was clinically the happiest person the world had known. We'll all get there some day ;)

I escape to the Mountain Top for Total Peace and Tranquility. I have a secret hiding place Atop the Mountain. It's The Middle of nowhere This place is 1/4 mile off the Main Highway. It's rural, so no sirens. Not sure when I will make it that way again. Oh, No Cell Service as well.

I dont think it is possible to obtain %100 complete happiness in the present lifetime. You can come close to it, but there is too much to worry about and to be responsible for to be happy all the time. It is enevitable that you will encounter major grief throughout your life. I believe you just live life the best way you know while enjoying it the best way you can. You will be rewarded in the next life or the afterlife.

yes. per dreamer's comments, and esoteric buddho-taoist thought, we separate ourselves from "bliss" due to our ignorance of what we truly are as humans, and what life is really all about. it is this "ignorance" which causes us substantial pain and suffering: the attachments, the expectations, the many ego based drives and disillusionments, etc. we are all different, but i have found that reading about, thinking about, debating about, etc. "nirvana", is of no substantial help, whatever. it is best to do those practices that will alter your consciousness as needed to *experience* nirvana. thus, getting involved with meditation and energy work: chi kung, yoga , jin shin jyutsu, reiki, yoga, etc. will modify your energy body and appropriate brain centers as necessary to help you make "the shift"..i assure you it is beyond worth the effort. the changes facilitated can not be imagined. you MUST experience the difference, before and after. check out http://www.sahajayoga.com http://www.bhagavandharma.org for some guidance. and read *the complete idiot's guide to toltec wisdom* for helpful insights. also check out tibetan buddhism and esoteric taoism. don't hesitate, and never give up!! ;-)

Everything that you believe passes into existence. Thoughts become things. If you believe you will reach nirvana you will. Likewise, if you believe that you are going to a heaven or a hell, that will become your reality as well. The mind is an incredibly powerful thing.
