34 thousand pounds

34k is the topline of your salary (gross).

You will loose around 1/3 of that in tax and national insurance so your net salary will be £22666.67 or around £1900 per month take-home pay.

Oh, and you wont hit the 40% tax bracket unless you do overtime

Any job that advertises its salary as k rather than thousand, is probably dodgy. No respectable company would be so slack in a public document. You will probably end up stuffing envelopes for 2p an hour.
