Actually there is one company in Hawaii that is like that! You pay one flat rate and get unlimited minutes. However, you can't currently roam with the phone.

I think it is because there is a fierce compition between cell phone companies going on. They will never agree to a flat rate because it would mean that they would not make more money then the other comapnies. It's always about how much a company can make. Right now the cell phone is a hot topic, because there are so many companies that want our business that some will go to any lengths to get it. SunCom is a good place to looke for flat unlimited min rates. You can try them on for size.

I don't think at this point the cell phone companies have the necessary infrastructure. Face it, if I could have unlimited use of my cell, I would ditch the landline. And so would a lot of other people.

They could not handle that type of volume.

Besides this way is much more profitable.

Businesses are out to make money! There is a company in Atlanta called Metro PCS that has a plan like that for around $40, but if you leave the state, you have little to no service....but they still make their money buy selling low quality phone for the big bucks.

Its called prepay. Pay per minute, the same price, no matter who you call to. Virgin Mobile does it for 18 cents, Cingular 25 per minute.

You will never see it on a contract phone because people's bills would be different each month, and companies make more either charging for too many minutes, or having people go over and pay 40 cents per minute.

There is a new company called Cricket and it is $50 a month for unlimited everything! I use it and it is great. The only catch is that you have to buy their phone and they run from 199.00 and up! Good luck!

They are making way too much money from us all going over our minutes. Those phones are like big money machines to the phone companies.
