It is true that once the battery is fully charged while in a laptop, no further charge is applied but it is the heat that actually damages a lithium-ion battery.
Removing the battery from the laptop when running on fixed power protects it from heat which is really bad for the battery life. The worst thing you can do is keeping a fully charged battery at elevated temperatures (which is the case with running laptop batteries). If used on main power, the battery inside a laptop will only last for 12-18 months. The pack does not die suddenly but begins with reduced run-times.
So better remove the battery when running on AC.

It depends upon a lot of things: the type of battery in your laptop, the recharging characteristics of the type of battery you have, the age of the battery, how often you let that battery discharge by either unplugging the power cord or by going mobile with your machine and more.
But, for the most part, laptop manufacturers know how most people use their computers, leaving them on almost all the time, or sleeping them by closing the lid, or using them on the road on a fairly regular basis. And because they know those profiles, they've tailored their systems to extend the life of the battery.
This is a big help to the manufacturer, because one of the biggest discriminators in buying a laptop, other than weight and screen size, is battery life.
So, let's answer your questions one at a time.

Laptops are designed to operate either plugged in or not, and once the battery has been fully charged the AC should have no effect on it. I have heard about some recalls of Sony batteries in Dell machines, you can most likely get any relevant info you need on Dell's website

You can remove it and run on AC alone. Yes leaving it plugged in WILL kill the battery. I have yet to see a new technology that will prevent this.

Yes you canleave it in. If you run on ac it will just charge the battery, until you need it where no outlet is available
