A quick way to give you an idea (if the building isn't really old) is to look on the lid of the toilet tank. I know it sounds funny, but there is usually a date on it. It could at least give you a starting point.
The toilets are usually relatively new when put into the house/apt.

Tax records will tell you EVERYTHING you could possibly ever want to know about an existing structure. Even how many times it was sold, who bought it, and the price it was bought for. Check it out.
