NO!!!...read below...I think this is ridiculous.

In the Netherlands, the official age of consent for sexual activity is 16. But as the Holland Sentinel has reported, Hollands age-of-consent law "permits sex between an adult and a young person between 12 and 16 if the young person consents. Prosecutions for coercive sex may be sought by the young person or the youths parents." But under Dutch law, parents have no clearly defined power to prevent or terminate "consensual" sexual relations between a 12-year-old child and an adult much to the delight of that nations homosexual lobby.

Not surprisingly, the Dutch Association for the Integration of Homosexuality played a key role in lowering that nations age of consent. A brochure produced by the group explains: "In the shady area between 12 and 16 sexual contacts are punishable only when a complaint is lodged.... [O]nly the child itself [sic], his or her parents and the Council for the Protection of Children may bring in charges."

But what if the child say, a 12-year-old boy lured into a homosexual relationship doesnt want to end the "relationship"? The brochure points out that "the Council assumes authority in case the situation within the family has got out of hand or when children and parents see no way of coping with the situation. Usually the Council will first try and find a solution with the help of social workers and therapists. Should the Council fail to see any feasible solutions, it may decide to contact the Justice Department." So while it is possible to prosecute Dutch adults who seduce children, prosecution is apparently the final option.

When you look at all the frivolous and malicious statutory rape cases that go through the American court system, how can you honestly blame the Dutch for liberalizing their age of consent law in this manner? Also, I once read that a couple of years ago that Holland actually has a lower teen pregnancy rate than the United States and England. So in that respect, can you really say that higher ages of consent like those in the United States and England make for a better society? The belief that adults who are attracted to adolescents are pedophiles is not a conclusion of fact but rather an argument similar to that on whether or not ABORTION is infanticide (child murder). The fact alone that most of us Americans have at least one Loretta Lynn in our ancestry suggests that most adults who are attracted to adolescents are not pedophiles. The age of consent in Holland used to be 21 years old. Could any of you even imagine what an even greater disaster the criminal justice system in the United States would become if our country were to raise its age of consent to 21? Macauley Culkin would have gotten a loud bang at the front door of his hotel room when he was on his honeymoon with Rachel Miner back in 1998, and the police would have been on the other side of the door asking him to produce evidence that he and Rachel Miner were married so that they wouldn't have to arrest him.

Age Of Consent Netherlands

NO, NO, NO The age of consent should not be 12. That is still a child. Shame on Holland for making the age of consent that young. But I am sure the legal government that pushed for that age is a pedophile wanting to making his sinful acts legal.

Holland will not prosper with a law like that.

What I want to know is what kind of person do you really take me for if you really expect me to believe you when you say the age of consent in Holland is 12. That is just plain nuts!

What I see here is AMERICAN values judging another countries values. Don't you have better things to do?
Growing up in South Africa and the Netherlands,. my sexual outlook is very much different that in America.
I did not and do not feel that when I was 13 and I was very much attracted to a man of 28 that I didn't know what I wanted? I certainly did. The fact that I was allowed to act on those feelings legally removed the guilt shame and fear from intimate relations. Was I hurt when it ended? Of coarse, no different than when you're an adult. Emotional hurt is a growing experience just as learning about sex. Don't put an AGE on the act but on the ability of someone making a choice even if it's the wrong choice, we learn by our mistakes.

The age of consent should be set by the parent of a person because only a parent knows the maturity of a child. However, no one should even conversate without parental permission.

Unless you can provide evidence, last time I looked at the AOC around the world, age "12" was not listed.
