My daughter (15) told me that she saw a snake this evening, apparently somewhere near the eaves and hanging down in the back doorway. She described it (what she could see) as multi light brown/orange, the bit "dangling down" was about 8 cm and she saw the eyes.

I have no idea what to do or who to call. I am not even sure that she DID see this. She has a history of either overdramatising things or making things up etc. She is genuirnely scare though - as am I !

I am in suburban Perth, Western Australia, about 3 km from the city centre. Is this likely ? She was all for calling the police but it didn't seem quite the place to call. But who ? It was pretty late by then anyway - about 10pm.

I know this sounds really strange and helpless of me. I am a single Mum and have dealt with quite a few "emergencies" and strange things before - but not really prepared for something like this ! Any ideas ? Or just forget it, put it down to her imagination ?

You should check out snake catchers in your area, and keep their phone number somewhere handy, eg on your fridge. If you don't know how to identify snakes (and have no intention of going near them) then the best thing you can do is call a professional to come remove it from your home so he can safely relocate it.

Also, if you have anything in your home/yard that could attract snakes, it would be advised to make them snake-proof or remove it completely, if snakes are a big concern for you. For example, if you own chickens, birds or rats/mice/guinea pigs that are outside, they may attract snakes to your home.

The snake your daughter spotted might just be passing through, and might be the only one you see for years, if ever again.

Never handle a snake if you don't know what it is, and never attack a snake. Attacking a snake will only stir them up and put you in danger. If you leave the snake alone, it will leave you alone. Best thing to do is get it safely removed by a professional.

Well snakes dont hunt people, if you leave it alone it will go away. It was probably looking for mice and birds and things around the house. As for you living in Australia you have alot of poisionous types of snakes. You need to tell your curious daughter that she is not to touch the snake or go near it. I would call your local law enforcement ask them if there is anyone in the area that can deal with snakes. Have them poke around to see if its in the area. Im sure it would have already moved on by now hunting.

call a zoo or animal control..i live in the US so i do not know how that works there.. i cannot tell you what kind of snake that is, but it is very possible that it is venomous... if you have copperheads there than that may be it.. either way do not attempt to approach it yourself without knowledge of what kind of snake it is.

i would look into it.. it could be her imagination, or it could be an actual snake that has found a home near or under your home

Call animal control, or your local humaine society, they will either deal with it, or know the people tp call.

You can always call the non emergency number for the police as well, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Call your local Pest Control agency, as they are trained in removing unwanted animals, etc.
