Last week when opening a new account at a bank, I was asked it I wanted to reopen the old account. To my surprise, He had open it with my SS, my name, his name as a second, and our old address. I had no idea! Now I don't have a doubt in my mind the man has been stashing it for years as I was warned by family and friends. He has a PHD and works for a prestige, and well known company.

I would get a credit report to see if he has opened any other accounts with your name. Now, with the free annual credit report, (this is shady) you can even get a copy of his since I'm sure you have all his information. Even if accounts have been closed, they will still show up on credit reports years later. Next, talk to your lawyer and tell him what you've discovered. I'm sure he can point you in the right direction, whether it be hiring an investigator or asking a judge to subpoena all his financial information.

If he is an ex-to-be then you probably have a ongoing court action. Ask your attorney to request a full financial disclosure from him, that establishes what information he is willing to answer the court with. This will be important to prove fraud later! It will also open him up to contempt charges if he is lying to the court. You should also contact the IRS to request their help. This will open him up to tax fraud charges if he is not claiming interest income on hidden accounts. After you set up your protection from him just closing the hidden accounts, then do a credit check or any other method listed the other answers to your question. Peace!

good luck. Bank accounts are considered private even from spouses. However, there are ways. I like the PI answer better than the lexis.com answer. Lexis can be confusing for first time users. Get a lawyer to subpoena his bank records, if he doesn't turn over all of them you can reopen the case if you should find out he hide some.

Good Luck

Alert your divorce attorney and get your hands on all your joint IRS filings as a starting point. Your attorney may suggest forensic accounting, but there is no guarantee you will find all the money that may have been stashed.

Good luck.

just ask him how much there is to spend per day

$10 or $100, live on that then

if you found an account with your name on it and your ss number then withdraw some money, maybe $5K or so to supplement the $10 a day for a few months.

You need to discuss this with your divorce attorney. He needs to request a full financial statement, of both of you....this enabling you to see if there are any other items that he has used your name or social security number for. You can also get a free copy of your credit report once a year from ...www.freecreditreport.com

A bank wont open an account under your name without your signature. That is fraud. You can hire a private investigator to find all of your ex-husbands assets.

Threaten him with legal reprocussions and contacting his employer if he doesn't disclose all account information to you. He would not want to sacrifice his job to play games. Also do a complete credit check and make sure he hasn't fradulently used your information other places.

I may not be even at getting good, but I good at getting even!

Unless you do some investigation. I don't know how you would find out. I don't know how he was able to open an account without your signature. I would be very leary of my soon to be ex. He is scandalous.
