The problem is that the US DOESN'T sit back and watch. We TRY to let others lead but they just don't do it.
We led in Kuwait. We led in Bosnia. We lead in Kosovo. We led in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Now, others want us to lead in the Sudan and Somalia, yet complain when we do ANYTHING.
It's the price we pay.

If you have a problem with dictators, take it up with them and the citizens of those countries that allow them to remain in power. The United States is not responsible for every problem in the world, any more than you are responsible for the problems of everyone in the U.S..
As far as conscience, what are you doing? Have you gone to these countries to fight the oppressors? Have you sold your computer and sent the money to the victims of oppression? I think not.

We have neither the right nor the responsibility nor even the ability to be the guardians of the world. The best we can do is to show others what CAN be their lot if they decide that it is worth it.
Our Declaration of Independence ends with:
"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."
Many of them who signed did indeed give their lives and/or fortunes for the freedom they so believed in. It's not a choice that can be forced on anyone but one which each person must make for themselves.

The peace and comfort you enjoy in the U.S. was hard earned. Lots of people died in the struggle to make American the land it is today. It is not our responsibility to fight for peace and prosperity throughout the world. That cost in lives and money we could not afford.
If other peoples want to build a nation where peace and liberty exist, they must invest in it themselves. Without their own back into it, it will not succeed.

Why do you expect the US to be the world pollice? We went to Iraq and got rid of Saddam and now the world is bashing us for being there. Yet here you are asking why we dont do something. Its a case of damned if we and damned if we dont.

amem. i believe most are as "mancow" says, sheeple. if it is not in their face it isn't important unless it affects them directly. not hard to see that most people are without a sense of morality or compassion. these people(not all) would let Jesus die for them but they would not return the favor for their fellow man. that is one of the main reasons i vote republican. a sense of morality.
