it depends on the type of sticky stuff. if it's glue, such as from a sticker that was on it, you can use alchohol (rubbing), acetone (nail polish removers have it, but not all, it will say on the bottle), or just plain soap and water with a lot of rubbing using some kind of scrubber for use with doing dishes.
there are some sticky materials that won't come off with these things and you may have to use a type of razor blade scraper to get it up. some stickers used by state inspection stations, or annual aotomobile registration stickers are usually scraped off this way.
if a mirror or pane of glass as in your windows or on a table, you can use the scraper, then some alchohol to get the little the scraper didn't get.
most glues used for normal applications on glass are soluble with alchohol, and/or acetone. only in very rare situations is the glue of a type that requires anything stronger.
being glass, and being sure that it is a glue, these are the recommended methods. if from some kind of fo0od, such as jelly or jams, or even spilled liquids, soap and water will do just fine. just don't soak it, but you can let wtaer sit on it without damaging anything as long as you don't let any wood sit with water on it as it may stain the wood if the glass is part of a wooden table or something with wood around it or if the glass sits on wood.

I would use a razor blade to get the paper part of the sticker off. Then for the glue residue (what I'm assuming you meant by sticky) I would use a household degreaser. There are a ton of brands, just ask for one at any hardware store or super department store. Good luck.

Lighter fluid - readily available in supermarkets from behind the cigarette kiosk. It really works! Just dab a bit onto a soft cloth or piece of kitchen paper or cotton wool and rub the sticky mark. It comes off instantly. Also works wonders for greasy marks on fabrics.

If you mean something like gum: ice works best. But, make sure the glass is cool too, or it could crack. The other items might work; depends on what you mean by "sticky."

You can use a razor blade to get most of it off. If there is any sticky left after that you can use a good degreaser or goo gone.

Apply with a cloth or brush ( carefully ) a little paint brush cleaner.
Do not allow contact with paint work !! Leave to soften. Wash off with sponge with warm water and little washing up liquid. Repeat the washing. Finally polish with kitchen roll or newspaper.
Hey Presto ?

Petrol is best because you won't have to buy anything extra to remove the stain, thats as long as you own a car or lawn mower.
