trying to convince a friend of mine she can survive away from her parents on her own.

she is 23 and i just think going back to her parents is a step backwards

she can survive but the question is, is she ready? is she ready physically and mentally to face the world alone (without parents)? you cant just push her to do sumthin that shes not ready or prepared for... let her think for a while and soon she will came up on a decision that can change her life... good luck and hope she will make a right and wise decision ^.~

You can't. This is not your self doubt, it's your friend who has this problem. Until she's ready to move out or away from her family there is no convincing her. She has to decide that she can do it and go for it. Encourage her rather than try to convince her. Share some of your strength, take small steps to build her confidence. She'll let you know when it's time to make it on her own.

A wise man once said,"Comparison is the root of self-doubt."
Ask your friend if she is feeling this way because of comparing to someone else.
Another way that self-doubt is defeated is through successful experiences. How can a small, but successful experience be planned so she can see that she can handle bigger things?
