Canadians are always telling people that they are something other than Canadian. It's "I'm French Italian" or "a cross between Irish, German, and Dutch." etc etc. These people were born and raised in Canada and often have not even travelled to the countries where they claim they are from and almost always cannot even speak the language, yet they still claim to be some other nationality. The only time when most Canadians admit to being Canadian is when they are travelling to another country. I know it's not a big deal, but don't you think it's silly for us to claim to be something we aren't just because our grandparents or great grandparents came from Europe? (or possibly somewhere else) Maybe this is wrong, but I have never met an American who claims to be something else. Why can't we be as patriotic?

Same goes for Americans. They are always Italian-American, Latin-American, Mexican-American, African-American, Chinese-American... JUST BE AN AMERICAN FOR CRIPE'S SAKE!!! I dont' go around calling myself an Irish-American just because my great-grandparents got here on a boat from Ireland.

I am a Canadian, because I live and grew up in Canada. But the country that I live in does not define who I am.
My blood line does that. I am French and British. When people from other countries ask me where I am from I say I am a Canadian. If they ask me what my nationality is then I say I am Canadian. If they ask me what my background is then I say I am French and British.

The difference between why Canadians think this and why Americans don't is because Americans are too partiotic. They've been raised to think this way. Canadians know they have different backgrounds and that their nationality doesn't state who they are.

There is really no such thing as a true Canadian or a true American. We are all settlers. No one except for the native indians are true Canadians. The rest of us came from all different parts of the world.

I hope this sheds some light on your question!

By the way, Dillutedjuice, you're an ignorant idiot. I agree things in Canada might be messed up right now but that is because Harper is in control and he's tyring to be like his little ***** president bush. Your answer has no relevance to this guy's question.

Well, I'm American, and as we both know, both Canada and the US are ethnically diverse countries. I typically just say that I'm American (as I just did), but if the topic of heritage enters the conversation, I proudly tell them that I'm of Cherokee, English, Irish, German, Scottish, and French extraction.

Because it just shows the weak backbone of a weak country, i am canadian myself. And i also think we are not really a country but a haven for immigrants to come here and expect us to adapt to their religions. At least in the USA the christians aren't ashamed and i don't think they have taken their crosses out of the schools to not offend the immigrants...Canada is a bunch of crock and i wish i was american. Are their not any american ladies out that wanna marry me so i can become american....lolllllll

Hey mister Bush i'll fight in your war if you give me my green card...hahahahaha anyways be proud of who you are and it doesn't matter what the others think.
