USB Adapters for Ethernet are generally aren't any good.

Have you installed all the right drivers for the USB Adapter ? if not you will need to before it will work.

If it is a Wireless Router and it is a Wireless Adapter it could be that your USB Adapter is not strong enough to pick up the router.

Also you might find that you have to configure the Adapter to find and connect to your router.

If you have netgear router you need netgear adapter as well.

Try setting up your network without security settings ie. Do Not use passphrase or security keys. When you get it working properly, thenyou can turn on the security settings.

is it finding your wireless network when you serach? are they both 802.11g or whatever you have?
