If you knew the sexuality of your child would you change it? And why?

I think it's disgusting; it’s bad enough on sheep.

1.i wouldn't want to know the sexuality of my child because finding out who they are is part of every child’s adolescence if you know that from birth then all that experience is gone.
2.you don’t choose your sexuality you are born with it, so you are changing whom your child is, destroying valuable qualities.
3.i do not think that it is a right as a parent at all.
4.nobody has the right to change who you are; it's like if you have blond hair and you love your blond hair but one day your mum says you should be brunette and changes it forever, its wrong.
5. If I changed my child scientifically then I would feel guilty for the rest of my life.
6.it's like giving a newborn baby plastic surgery.

I’m bisexual and I think it’s a really valuable quality that I love about me, it makes me who I am. Yes I was uncomfortable growing up and didn’t understand I was worried what people would think. But it’s who I am and I would rather be me than someone else

For straight people , or if you don’t understand: if you were going to be straight but your mum had a test to find out your sexuality and decided she wanted you to be gay, would you be ok about that?

The technique being developed by American researchers adjusts the hormonal balance in the brains of homosexual rams so that they are more inclined to mate with ewes.

It raises the prospect that pregnant women could one day be offered a treatment to reduce or eliminate the chance that their offspring will be homosexual. Experts say that, in theory, the “straightening” procedure on humans could be as simple as a hormone supplement for mothers-to-be, worn on the skin like an anti-smoking nicotine patch.

changing someone's sexuality BEFORE they know it themselves - is a stupid idea, it's making them fit your standards and it's called selfishness and narrow-mindedness

I think mankind is on the verge of engineering his species out of existence.

This is a good reason for not wanting to know. If I did know and had a choice and orientation was all that was involved, I would vote for straight. For one thing, it increases my child's chances for finding a life partner, since 90% of the world's population is straight. And face it, in today's world, being gay is a handicap compared with not being gay. I say that from experience.

If your child had a serious birth defect, would you feel guilty about correcting it? Newborn babies do have plastic surgery, to correct cleft palates and hair lips among many other surgeries. It's a matter of degree, of course, not the same as giving a baby a cuter nose or fuller lips, but then any such surgery is giving the child a social advantage (or taking away a disadvantage).

The risk is that you don't know what else you might be changing, especially when dealing with something as basic as personality and orientation. With that risk in mind, I wouldn't interfere with his or her orientation.

In any event, it's probably at the bottom of my list of concerns.

While I don't think this is a good thing, I believe it is a long way from being able to "cure" gays and lesbians...
Genetic engineering on that level would be very dangerous, yes, it might make them prone to be heterosexual, it also might be prone to making them rapists and serial killers. The sex drive is also linked to issues such as physical aggressiveness, they may be trading homosexuals for mass-murderers.
While this research may "settle" many questions, it does open up a Pandora's box of possibilities. It will be many, many years before anything of this sort will be available for human testing, if ever. As it stands those sheep were found by behavior, not by a genetic test. Until not only can such a genetic marker be found but also finding the similar one in humans will such issues become of real concern.
Eugenics and the ethical concerns it creates will certainly be a topic that I will watch with great interest.

one million.) Peer/family members decision: in organization cultures (like ours) there's a improvement to having any one who will support lift youngsters and proportion assets with them with out produceing thier possess - a few argue gay individuals are typically the more youthful of siblings two.) They genetic detail of homosexuality (and there's one, even though it is not one hundred%) could also be associated with elevated feminine copy. Evolution works throughout a populace as a entire - at the entire, this gene might broaden health. The hyperlink underneath is incredibaly important, actually. Also, recall evolution would possibly provide an explanation for why developments exist, however does not recommend any type of ethical judgement; so even is homosexuallity seems to be an evolutionary fluke, morally it is nonetheless exceptional.

This doesn't mean that all parents would chose to do this. The gay population wouldn't be wiped out I don't think. Its still a disgusting prospect but I think there are enough people out there who would still chose not to do it.

i think i asked a question similar to this once, "do you think hormone levels affect someones sexuality". i guess scientists proved my idea to be true. but i still dont think its right to change someone for your own sake. i dont know. maybe everyone just needs to learn to get along with eachother and be more open to different life styles.

scientists are just wasting more time and space. It impossible to change someone's sexuality, you are born with it. that is like trying to prevent a child from ever getting angry

I guess if it works it would be a scientific breakthrough, but to some parents they might love to have this, but I am against it.

I believe being gay or bi is a choice and no one is born that way. Yes I am straight and no I would not want my parents to decide to change me to gay. You can't find out the sexuality of a child at birth so this makes no sense at all.
