Some women do, some women don't.

Why is it that most murders of children are committed by women, usually their mothers?

There is no way to decribe a Mother's love for her children or even why she loves her children more than anything in this world. It's because of a very strong bond that a Mother feels for her Children.

In part it is because of physical hormones. Oxytocin and prolactins are called "mothering chemicals" and they influence the feelings moms have for their children.

However, as we all know, adoptive moms have the same passion for their kids as biological moms. Do chemicals affect them, too? Probably. Endorphins probably influence both the biological and the adoptive mom.

Also, there are times when moms don't get the floods of chemicals that most moms get or when something goes wrong and they don't have that early passionate love for their kids. This doesn't make them bad people, it just makes it harder for them to develop that bond with their kids.

This isn't the whole story, but this is part of it. Another part involves our daily interactions and relationships with our children. It's a very complex and interesting relationship!

I think it's simply survival of the species. Never mind all the romanticized answers you've gotten so far.

I like your question though. I've often wondered. Considering that a child is basically a pain to its mother from the moment of conception, loving it doesn't seem very rational... I guess that's also why nature makes us cute.

Because you made it, you re responsible, and it is too small to do anything for itself. The baby is innocent and sweet. It is a natural feeling, and there are some mothers that are so self centered that they cannot feel this natural drive. They should not have babies.
