What we will never know is,
What Richard Nixon knew? and
When he knew it?

I'd like to think Richard Nixon was guilty of something you would never find in modern day politics, loyalty.

I have often pondered the facts as being President Nixon had no knowledge of or planning the break-in. However, when his friends were caught because they were acting out of loyalty to him, he returned the favor in attempting a cover up. I have no proof of this just a hypothesis.

It is well known that President Nixon was a borderline paranoid and did in fact order some F.B.I. investigations of some of the famous Anti Vietnam protesters. Considering the state of the Democratic party at the time, he should have had no worries as to their ability to beat him in the elections.

Answer to your question, he was considered a crook because he helped the crooks that did mastermind the Watergate Break-in.

Because he tried to cover it up. The tapes that he had recorded were not the ones that led to his downfall. Obviously, he could have destroyed them. There was another taping system. It was the other set of tapes that Nixon did not have access to that took him down.

I believe that Alexander Haig was instrumental in his removal.

Nixon's worst actions were his betrayal of Taiwan, and recognition of Communist China. You see the results every time you go shopping. And also, the loss of our manufacturing jobs (which was compounded by NAFTA).

Also, his wage an price controls - which is fascism (government control of the economy, without ownership). This was allegedly done to control inflation. Inflation is caused by deficit spending, and then monetizing the debt by printing more federal reserve notes, cheapening the value of the "dollar". All wage and price controls do is to cause shortages.

Also, Nixon removed all connection between gold and the "dollar". This makes our dollar completely worthless, just like the rest of the currencies of the world -including the Euro.

In reality he did nothing that all the others weren't doing, he just got caught, or i'll say the ones that worked for him got caught. The nation at that time was in such an uproar about everything from civil rights, women rights Vietnam, the vice president resigning for tax evasion, and the American people had been so lied to and killings at Kent State where innocent students were shot dead on the campus by national gaurdsmen; get the picture?

He okayed the plan. He put it in motion. In the end he was responsible. Unfortunately he got away with it through a presidential pardon. In theory the executive branch is not above the law but in practice that seems to be the case.

Basically, Richard Nixon thought he was above the law. He acted like he was all powerful, and disrespected the Constitution and our Democracy that so many gave their lives for over the centuries.

It was--basically. He was a crook because he'd use any means necessary to defeat his opponents -- including bugging their offices, using the FBI against them, and then would deny it and do everything he could to cover it up. He used executive privilege to further mask his lies and argued that he was above the law.

President Ford had him cleared of that I think. That was in the dark ages. What are you doing way back there?
