Well, these two things can be changed as a result of how far the gas pedal is pushed in relation to the floor. A V8 Mustang can get better gas mileage compared to a 4cyl Honda, if you are a light foot in the Mustang and a heavy foot in the Honda. Personally I like both speed and gas mileage, so I own both a V8 '67 Mustang and a 4cyl '02 Kia Rio.

I prefer high mileage because that keeps my hard earned money where it belongs. In my pocket and not some over paid arrogant oil executive (like George Bush or Dick Cheney.)
I also prefer used cars to new for the same basic reason, to keep as much of my money as I can in my pocket.

I would take a car that goes fast ANY day over something that is crappy but better on gas.

I would enjoy a fast car. I would choose a good mileage car though, cause I am cheap.

Wtih the technology of todays autos and the after market and they're contribution to performance and milage. it's very posible to have both.
