Was talking with a mate last night and this brought back memories...did your grandmother have her furniture covered in plastic to protect it? I suppose it was a good idea, but who would want to inherit a frilly hideous flowered sofa? You'd stick to the plastic if you were wearing shorts....ahhh comfort.
She also had those plastic runners. What was with that? Was my grandmother certifiably insane or did yours have this hangup too?
And oh yes, she also didn't allow wire hangers...only plastic. Much like in Mommie Dearest (Joan Crawford)
Thankfully she didn't hit me over the head with a can of Comet and require me to scrub the bathroom floor in the middle of the night.

Lord yes, help us all. The plastic runners were on her floor until they yellowed and curled up at the edges. Her carpet was apparently more important than the trips to the hospital that I required after tripping over those damn humped up runners.

My grandmother also had the plastic slip covered that protected her "precious" red velvet couch. LOL That was the ugliest thing i've ever seen. Who would buy that let alone try to protect it.

She did allow wire hangers but only because they came free with the dry cleaning and God forbid they be thrown out. She also saved the bags that loaves of bread came in for some unknown purpose. Yeah, it was always "fun" at Grandma's, though she was really sweet and a great cook. We just lived in fear of messing anything up at her house.

LOL My grandfathers living room furniture was covered in plastic and I got it after he passed. It was white and in great shape from the plastic protecting it. However the first thing I did was take the plastic off. You could have said: "Never, I love him, Grandma!" LOL

They hadn't invented plastic when my granny was alive. She used to put socks on the chair and table legs to stop them getting scratched.Thick layers of newspaper on the table under the cloth to stop it getting marked. The best chairs had antimacassars and arm covers to stop them wearing. We were only allowed in the front room in the following circumstances---- christmas day after lunch and all day boxing day .If somebody died they were laid out there. The parson was entertained there and the insurance man got in there but only if he was paying out on a policy.!

I am black and yup my grandmother had it on her furniture until we moved her to Georgia.. after my grandfather's death. HA HA.. My mom said that it was no longer necessary to stick to furniture in the summertime.. there are cleaners to protect the furniture..

but when she took the plastic off.. everything still looked NEW.. and now they are all considered antiques.

She sure did! With that marble and gold accented coffee table where I was constantly inflicted with sharp blows to the knee.
Museum de Grandma, a fixture in our early lives!! Ha Ha!

No, but she did have cloth slip covers and table cloths over everything. I remember lifting them up when no one was around to see what the real furniture looked like underneath.

My god, are we related?

I started reading this, and thought YES, and those Plastic runners, and then I saw so did yours.

Not sure about the hangers though.
