What do you think of the Soviet Union's old friend France opposing the iraqi war? The French basically left NATO in the middle of it and demanded NATO troops leave France in 1966. Both before and after that, French policies were unhelpful towards the USA at best, actually harmful at worst. It is more reasonable to consider France an ally of the USSR during the Cold War than of the USA.

1. French people close to Chiraq's government receive oil vouchers from Saddam during the Oil-for-Food scam
2. French had long been a major arms supplier to Saddam, even during a UN ban on doing so
3. France has long had close relationships to Islamic terrorists. The Ayatollah Khomeini spent his exile in France. Yassir Arafat had very close ties with the French government.
4. In the lead-up to the war, France assured Bush that they supported the effort and would help. We all know what they actually did.
5. The French government is afraid of the significant Muslim minority in France that is subject to discrimination and government indifference. Support of the US in this case might have led to internal issues. Better to appease and capitulate before trouble begins?

During the Revolutionary war, France was a good friend of the USA and thanks to France we have our country today. But,,, by the other token, France is a country that the only reason they have a "democratic country" is because of the life of thousand of Americans that died for the liberation of France during the 2nd World War. So for some reason the government of France turned against the Americans after the war, I think is was because of jealousy of the English and Americans friendship. Now that hatred against the USA still exist and that's the reason they are against everything that the USA does,, good or bad.

Perhaps France is onto something here. They didn't support us in 2003, because there were no WMD's in Iraq. We didn't listen to them then, and they are proved right. I am not sure I would hitch my start to a country as moody as the United States either, if I were European, except maybe the United Kingdom.

France has always been Jealous of the US and did not like it when our Military rescued them and gave their women proof of what real men were like in BED!!
