It all depends on your location.

I live in a northern location. They use a lot of salt to keep the roads open during the winter. Some cars can rust after only a few years. Some rust faster than others.

It also depends on how long you intend to keep the car. If you only intend to keep the car a few years, I wouldn't bother. You would be doing the rust proofing for the next owner.

It depends on the rust proofer's warranty. Some will repair the rust damage to your car. Others will only give you a portion of your money back, usually pro rated.

So if you live in a rust prone area, intend to keep the car more than a few years, and the rust proofer has a good warranty, I would consider it.

Otherwise, just keep the underside of your car as clean as possible

I belive i have read that unless you live in a coastal area or some place with a hard winter where they salt the roads alot rust proofing your car is worthless and when they say rust proofing they are only talking about the underside of your car because the primer they put on all painted surfaces is already a rust proofs it

I used to do it whenever I got a new car and I do live in a coastal area with hard winters and salted roads. I stopped doing it a couple of vehicles ago, more than 10 years now and don't see any difference. I got a new truck a couple of months ago and the dealer didn't even ask if I wanted it so I brought it up and he felt with the way they are made now its not even worth it. So I would save my money.

Most people don't own thier car long enough. If the isn't brand new then don't bother because that so called rust proofing will trap in very little spots of rust that are hard to see and accellerate them.If you just had the entire car acid bathed then go for it otherwise save your cash and wash the car often.

If rust-proofing existed then it would be worth it.Unfortunately all they are selling is rust resistance.I'll bet your car rusts just the same with or without it.

Best answer would come from knowing the car, location and cost you were quoted.

It really boils down to how long you intend to own it?

Living in coastal or winter (salted roads) and keeping 5 years or more, go for it.

Less than 5 years anywhere - no, probably not worth it.

Depends on where you live. If you live in a salty air environment, like near the coast of salty water it would. I live in san Antonio far away from any salty air. I have an 82 Toyota with signs of no rust so far.

cars are made with inhibitors already in metals and paints.. What after market rust proofing can do is actually seal IN moisture and grime because once it leaves the factory it is subjected to the ellements...Dont waste your money..

Is your car new? Edmunds.com says that new cars resist formation of rust because of new technologies or techniques to retard/delay/prevent rust. Don't spend for rustproofing.
