I'm 35 weeks pregnant right now and I have already gained 47 lbs. before I got pregnant I weighed 118 at 5'7 and now I'm at 165. This makes me a little worried because I'm not sure how much more I will gain in the ninth month. I'm afraid it will be hard to lose. I think my problem is that I started drinking alot of milk since I got pregnant ( 1 gallon on my own every 1 to 2 days) and I drink alot of water which I probably retain alot of it. You can't really tell how much I gained, everyone says it's all baby. At least all of that milk is good calcium for the baby. That's really all that matters!

29 lb is the average recommended weight gain during pregnancy. You are doing great! Beyond the 25-35 lb that is recommended (provided you are not overweight to start with), your weight gain has little to do with baby's birth weight. Besides, more than 8 lb, you are looking at a potential C-section. I gained a full 50 lb. Towards the end my OB suggested I cut down on refined carbs like rice and sweet fruits like grapes and melons. I had a 7 hour labor and popped him out easily. My son was born 7 lb 5 oz, very healthy. But 7 months after delivery, I am overweight. I have lost 20 lb (I'm breastfeeding), still 30 to go. Looking forward, I plan to gain 30 lb for the second baby. I suspect you got wiser after your 55 lb gain as well. 30 lb is great, hope you will have a wonderful delivery and healthy baby.

With my first child I gained about 27 lbs and got VERY swollen at the end during the summer. This time, I am 39 weeks right now I have only gained 18 lbs and don't have any swelling. The first one was a boy and this one is a girl. I think they usually recommend between 20-30 lbs for someone who was of average weight before they were pregnant. I think every person and every pregnancy is different though. You just need to listen to your body and you will be fine. One thing that I did do differently this time was excersize. I went to the gym 2-5 times per week for the first 8 months. I haven't gone since Thanksgiving though just because that is when I got tired and busy again! Hope this helps!

Most docs today say a 25 to 30 pound gain is ideal. I have one child. I gained 34 pounds during the pregnancy (about 132 when I became pregnant, so 166 at birth). My daughter was 8 lbs 9 oz, and I lost 44 pounds (an extra 10) within 6 months. Just walk a lot with your child. It's great exercise and a great way to bond with them get them interested in physical fitness as well. My mother-in-law, though, gained about 90 pounds while pregnant with my husband, but she only kept on about 10, so pretty good. A friend of mine gained about 60 (30 in the last month because she had pre-eclampsia (sp?)!) and lost an extra 10 or so, too, in about 6 months. Just take care of yourself while you are pregnant, lots of water, and fruits and veggies and whole grains and lean meats. Walk a few times a week while you are pregnant if the doc says it's ok, but not very stenuous walking. My doc told me for the first 6 months or so, just don't increase your workout and go easy on the weights. Ask your doc what's best for you while you are pregnant. A lot of it depends on what you did before you were pregnant.

I was about 117 prepregnancy and close to 170, I think, at 39 weeks for my c-section. I stopped looking at the scale after 160! I was back to 117 by 6 months postpartum.
I ate relatively well. I tried not to eat too many strawberry milkshakes! Seriously, I tried to get a salad if we ate out, I ate fruits and veggies, and tried to keep my diet balanced. I exercised 3x a week for 30 min and did light exercise on other days. I did have a 9 lb 2 oz baby, so that could be some of why I gained so much. At the end, I definitely had a lot of water weight from swelling in my legs, but there were no adverse effects, complications, hypertension, etc.
I did take an exercise class at about 3 months postpartum, which helped.

The baby will gain about 8 pounds. another about 8 pounds are needed for placenta, amniotic fluid etc. My wife had gained about 20 pounds in the three months before we were married. She lost weight very slowly for the next 7 months or so until she got pregnant. Then she lost a few more in the first 3 mo of pregnancy with morning sickness etc. When she went to give birth, she weighed exactly what she had when we got married. She wore her regular clothes until she was 8 months peregnant. There was a lot we did wrong, but we got that one right.

I am 5'7", and I was 143 before getting pregnant, and when I got pregnant, I was going through a lot of stress (unrelated to the pregnancy), which caused me to drop to 130 in the first two months. I started gaining it back, though, around two months, and ended at 155--so you could either say that I gained 12 pounds (from my pre-pregnancy weight) or 25 pounds (From my lowest pregnancy weight).
But I lost it all (plus a little more!) really easily, just from breastfeeding, no additional exercise! I'm now at 120.

My first pregnancy was the worst...65lbs!! Coming from a big Italian family you had to "eat for two" everywhere you went! I was huge! I started at 145 and by the time I gave birth I weighed 210 lbs!!! There was lots of diet and exercise after that and with my other 3, I made sure that I only gained the recommended 20 or so lbs (only 13lbs with my daughter!)

First pregnancy I weighed 120 before, then by the end I weighed a little over 190..no joking. I gained a little more than 70 pounds. It was ridiculously hard to lose, but I did it.
