This probably is the weirdest and most random question ever, but my little brother keeps asking me, my mum, and my dad, who would win in a fight? A Crocodile? or a Shark? Does anyone have any idea?

Listen to me! A saltwater crocodile has killed equal size bull shark, tiger shark, and even the great white shark.

I have written documents on this category. The saltwater crocodile are very fit and much more aggressive then a great white sharks.

A 16 foot saltwater crocodile will weigh about 700-1000 kilograms. I have talk to crocodiles scientist who have weighed wild 16 foot crocodiles, which are about 1700-2200 pounds and the people who said a 16 foot saltie weighs 1000 pounds are wrong! They have the strongest bite force of any animal in the animal kingdom and in the water don't get tired fast! They swim 15-18 miles underwater. Crocodiles are also real agile in the water and very fast. The shark is more agile though.

Saltwater crocodile (Salties) kill 2200 pound water buffalo and can kill a person in one good chomp! They have been know to eat and kill tigers, large wild boars, humans, sharks, horses, etc...

Great white sharks are not as aggressive and will have problems biting through the crocodiles bony plates and under the bony plates are thick, rough skin, which are much tougher than a female great white shark! The average fully grown male saltie is 15.4 to 16.6 ft. A 16 foot great white shark will weigh 16 feet and 2500 to 2700 pounds, it might weigh more than the croc but the crocodile makes up for it with power!

On animal-face off ( t.v show )the great white shark, because they like it better. I think the crocodile was 21 feet and 3000 pounds, which the saltie should of weigh more! And the great white 21 feet and 7500 pounds, which the shark should weigh around 5000-6000 pounds. Crocodiles are stronger with pulling things

THE SALTWATER CROCODILE WILL WIN! 8/10 times the croc will win!

Crocodiles do not lose scale and the crocodile sides are extremely hard and the belly is soft and if the shark bit the belly the crocodile will probably die. Its true the hippo could kill either crocodile or great white shark!

I did a lot of work on this!

The only sizeable shark that can survive in fresh water (where crocodiles mostly live) is the bull shark, so let's assume the fight is between an adult bull shark and an adult croc.

In this case, the croc would most likely win, as its armored scales would be almost impenetrable by the shark. Having said that, the bull shark could get lucky and find a chink in the armor (crocs do lose those scales from time to time) and he could exploit that. On balance, I would favor the croc if I had to chose.

The answer is a little like trying to predict the outcome of the Superbowl. One side may have it won on paper, but that may not be how it turns out on the day.

Crocodiles have very tough skin while the shark wouldn't have the tough skin the croc has. A shark's bite might not get past the scaly skin unlike the croc that can get past the skin and into the flesh.

The shark is more agile underwater, but the croc can go on land.
But what kind of shark? What kind of crocodile? Are they the same size? A shark breathes salt water and the croc breathes fresh water.

P.S. Tell your brother that he needs to be more specific in his questions or you can't really answer them can you?

This is the definitive answer. You have to assume the were talking about the worlds hardest shark, so were talking about Jaws The Great White Shark V's the meanest crocodile in the known world, Digger The Australian salt Water Crocodile.
These two seriously hard dudes met on the tropical shores southern Malaysia! There was total carnage the fight lasted 15 minutes before finally Jaws was overcome and dragged up on to the beach after being seriously toasted by Digger the undisputed champ in this contest.
Orca the Killer whale has been looking for Digger but no date has yet been set for this duel of beasts!

Well salt water have been known to eat small sharks, but to go up against a great white shark, it depends on whose bigger. If there the same size, it could go either way. Being an air breather, the salt water is at a disadvantage. When it goes up for air, it puts it vulnerable underbelly at risk. But if the crocodile manages to bite the shark's tail, it would have the advantage. Oh by the way both crocodile and shark have very protective skin.

Lets say that both animals are of similar weight and size.

The shark would win in deep water as it's alot faster and more agile.

The crocodile would probably win in shallower or muddy water.

I think that the physics of a shark's jaws would give them a more powerful bite than the crocodile's.

Oh and for the person who said crocs are the 'strongest creatures in water', well Hippos regularly kick the crap out of crocks, even breaking their backs by biting through them. A hippo can bite a boat in half.

They could meet, but then probably wouldn't fight- large crocs are seen of reefs such as the GBR in Australia.

Pound for pound, I'm backing the shark (any whaler type, of a size capable of taking on a croc). for it's superior speed and agility. In shallow water though it would be a different story.

"Animal face off" a discover program made a "pretend" saltwater croc fight a pretend great white shark. The great white won.

In deep water, a shark as the shape of the body and fins means that they are beautifully adapted to the watery medium. However, on the edge of a lake or similar, the croc could be mobile in or out of the water and could stay out of the water for a long time. The shark couldn't fight out of water.

What kind of shark? A sandshark? Then a croc would win. A great white? Then the shark would win. There are too many types of sharks out there, gotta be more specific.

Depends, what shark and what croc. A great white vs a small croc the shark would win, but say a small tiger shark vs a nile croc. the nile croc would own the shark.
