I've been living and teaching English in Japan for 3 years. I've visited several places all over the country. For the most part, I've had a great time.

My wife and I visited Japan last March, and we both agree it was one of the best experiences of our lives. We took the classic trip most Western visitors to Japan take - Tokyo and Kyoto. Tokyo shows you more the ultra-modern, fast-paced Japan, while Kyoto gives you a glimpse into the past with its numerous shrines and temples.

The people there are, almost without exception, polite, friendly, and helpful. We never felt in danger (Japan has a very low crime rate), and whenever we got lost, we could count on the strangers in the area to be helpful. The transportation system was efficient, and you could get anywhere you wanted quickly. It was also extraordinarily clean. People often complain that Japan is expensive, which it certainly can be. However, if you look around, you can find reasonable places to eat and shop (it's a bit harder to find a good deal in terms of lodging).

Overall, we enjoyed our time in Japan, and we keep talking about when we will be able to make a return trip. I would highly recommend a visit to anybody considering it.

Aloha, and I have been to Sapporo, as my wife is from there. I love Japan. The people are very nice, the food is excellent, both American and Japanese cuisine. The mountains of Sapporo, are very beautiful. Sapporo, is the city in the state of Hokaido, and parts of Hokaido are country, very rural. They is a lot to see in Japan. In Sapporo I went to the Sapporo beer factory, Otaru,a fishing village for herring, which is on the sea of Japan, north of Sapporo, I saw the most beautiful Temple, on the outskirts of Sapporo, there is so many places to shop, you can spend a day inside the huge shopping center in Sapporo. The only hard part is the time change, as there is a 19 hr. time difference, but what a great country to visit. I will be going back again soon.Enjoy Japan.

Japan is a large country. I have only been to Tokyo, Sakura (I believe that is the name. It is home to the Daibutsu statue), and Kyoto.

Tokyo is a clean and chic city full of friendly people willing to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. It is a major culture shock for anyone used to the selfishness and rudeness of American cities!

Food is surprisingly inexpensive as long as you stay away from the bustling metropolitan areas where businessmen have dinner meetings and such. Check out the side streets for great food at a great price! Also check local markets (Tsukiji fish market), department stores, and shopping markets (Nakamisa Dori?) for inexpensive but authentic food.

One of the most impressive aspects of Tokyo is its TOP NOTCH public transportation. The subways are phenomenal; they cover a broad area and they are inexpensive and they are efficient and they are clean and they are safe...

Kyoto is a more quaint city. There are enough temples and shrines to visit a few per day :)

Sakura is the most quaint of the three cities. It is home to a quiet brick-paved street with small family restaurants and private boutiques. It leads up to the most impressive Buddha statue I know of...the Daibutsu.

I can go on for hours, narrow down your question!

I went there with an orchestra and it was pretty great. I had a host family for a couple days and they were very very kind. I visited Chiba, Tokyo, and Kyoto. Kyoto is beautiful. And the cherry blossoms were blooming. I didn't find it too expensive food wise. I could get an onigiri for 100-250 yen. But then again I don't eat too much.
