They are quite formal in a business context, for example if you go to a meeting they will give you their business card, and would expect to have yours in return.

Knowing a few words of the lingo will really help - I remember seeing the look of amazement on people's faces, it warms them to you and it's not hard to learn the basic greetings & please/thank you. I would recommend a little book called Very Simple Arabic by James Peters, which incorporates a section called Simple Etiquette. It gives lots of very good advice and is small enough to carry with you.

Take your shoes off in people's houses. When you sit on the floor, tuck your feet under so that no-one can see your soles, it's rude. Also don't forget to eat only with your right hand - the left is for botty-wiping and therefore 'unclean'.

I love the Middle East, the people, food, culture, scenery, markets. If you are a Christian also it feels a very special area to visit. Lucky you! I hope to work over there one day too.

When you say an Arabic country I am confused as it means Arabic which is the language.
I presume your mean the Middle East? some of the countries are not so strict but believe me some are very hard on rules and regulations.
Drink is a no no
Drugs forget it
Theft can result in you loosing a hand
I would advise you to research the country and its laws and do not try to be clever or think you are invincible because believe me your not.

I spent time in the Middle East and always adhered to the rules and ensured I respect both the country and its people.

Do not touch anyone or eat with your left hand. It is the hand used to wipe yourself, and not everyone has toilet paper.
