Regardless of the fact that I think Obama would be a great president I don't think the US is ready for it. I also dont' think it is ready for a female president as much as I'd like to see that. Regardless of being the "great melting pot". We truly aren't a melting pot at all. Although segregation isn't legal we all segregate on a daily basis from both races. Ever go on a campus and notice all the african americans in one area and whites in the other? If we can't be enlightened enough to intermingle on a social level what makes us think that there would be the faith in the black president that is needed to run a country. I also don't think he'd ever get elected in if past elections are any example. Look at who votes and where. Truly a sad state of affairs.
Perhaps if it was eased in by perhaps having a female or a black VP first we could become more ready but at this point....no unfortunately our mindset is not ready.

Yes it is. We are at a crossroads. There is so much glorification of dumb crap in all pop culture, and most especially black pop culture -- gangsta rap, crap movies, really stupid stuff like "ghost riding the whip." One could understand why an alien from another world would come here and think there was something defective with this entire demographic. (As the song said "They're justified and they're ancient, and they drive an ice cream van; they're justifed and they're ancient, without a master plan")

Obama has a chance to redeem this image, gloriously. He's bright, articulate, positive and personally inspiring in the way JFK was. He could make black kids want to lead and read, instead of hang out and make nothing of themselves.

I say this with compassion, but also some anger that things have come to this pass for black culture. It could have been better than it is. And it can be better again, now, with the right stimulus and model. Obama would be that.

I think the answer is yes. I would vote for someone like Powell in a heart beat. I know there are raciest out there but I think that it is pretty much equal in all races and I don't think that black is considered by most people that vote to be disqualifying.
Trig you are so wrong about the south, where are you from? I live in Ca and have traveled the whole country/ world and the south is nowhere near as bad as CA,Hi, Il, or many of the other places I have been. Check your history and you will find that SC had the first black mayor (the town of Ninety Six).

What does that mean? Ready for a Black President? That's taken right from the liberal press and it makes no sense.

Where do you stand on issues? How will you approach those issues? Do you believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
These are the questions, not "ready for a black president".

And besides, isn't electing a president for the sole purpose of skin color racist?

In theory yes in reality No, hell no I think white people would rather see a Hillary Clinton up there than a Black man.

I can't speak for everyone naturally, but I do think a White Female will be more accepted by the vast majority of Voters "Who are white" then a Black male.

My answer has nothing to do with slavery or any other types of reverse rasicm it's jut my openny

America should be! This is the basis for my belief and my hope that Barrak will go far and make it to the presidential nomination... I am southern resident who is personally sick to death of the rich majority running our government, I am ready for an Abe Licoln again- someone who is what they say they are and are not loaded and corrupted through what is not reality to most of the majority of people in the American society. Bush is not how most of us where raised and he does not relate well with the majority. Being a 35 year old- white- female I want to live to see the day that America gives a "real" man a chance to run our country.... Let's face it what we have now is not working for us so let's change it.....

Yes, this country has been changing for the better for the longest time and now its time to get out of conformity. The stereo-typical that only white men can be president. A black man can do the same job, possible better.

If the candidate is competent and popular enough to be elected than I think the answer is obvious. Why would we not be "ready" for a leader just because he/she is black? Most of the US population is tolerant and accepting of an individuals race/sex/nationality/etc. as long as they are decent human beings. There will always be people, (of all races), too ignorant to look past skin color, but in the US they are the minority.

Obama would not have ties to the black community different than his shade. His father became Kenyan and his mom became white. this suggests no person in his kinfolk became ever a slave, not at all skilled segregation, and not in any respect skilled something the black community skilled. He became knowledgeable in Indonesia and Hawaii, after that Ivy League faculties. i do no longer think of he truly skilled what all of you declare to have skilled or what your father, grandfather, or great-grandfather skilled. Obama is a fraud utilising you like Wright to get what he needs. Obama desires your vote. Wright desires your cash. bypass purchase Wrights e book as quickly because it hits information stands. he would be counting his money in his million greenback homestead in the white community he now lives. Obama, if elected, would be working to guard the placement and individuals he has real ties and shares a genuine background, Kenya. Now all of you Obamanites shop working stressful to get Barack the Presidency, Kenya desires him.
