I have read several baby books, and mostly the talk about: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and a "bedtime" bottle. My baby will only have breakfast, lunch, a very small snack (usually a teething biscuit and like 2 oz. of juice) and dinner.... She won't eat more than that! She's more interested in crawling and then she's so tired... she'll just want to take a nap, and at night, same thing, she'll go to sleep right after dinner... No "bedtime" bottle! (although she has formula with her dinner)
So... is she OK eating this much?
Oh, yeah, she's 9 months old.
Thank you!

Those books you are reading are basically a guideline and average.(for example I have a 2 1/2 year old that can out eat any adult and then I have a 4 1/2 year old that barely eats enough to keep a bird alive) Your daughter doesn't eat as much obviously. As long as she is gaining weight well and is healthy I wouldn't be concerned and maybe just bring it up at her next well child visit.

I actually enjoyed looking stuff up on the internet more so than reading books. I was given a few books by friends, and they were okay. But I find that books that cover everything generally only spend a small amount of time on each topic so that they can include many subjects. I would perk my interest on a subject with a book, but then more thourougly research it online. The thing is... there's lots of contradicting information in the books you read. One book may say do this, another may be against it. I preferred to read information from both sides and try to make the most logical decision. I've carried this over now that my daughter has been born.

Firstly about solids:
My son wouldn't eat anything other than breastmilk most days until he was 10 months old. Even now I doubt he gets more than 2oz of "real" food. That is perfectly normal HOWEVER do not plan to "wean" her from formula at 1 year (which isn't really recommended anyway).
About formula:
You need to assess how much formula she drinks in a day. There should be a minimum. I have heard 2oz per lbs of body weight per day (up to 3oz per lbs is ok I am talking about a minimum(. However, I'm not sure how accurate that is.
If she is gaining appropriately, looks healthy (good skin tone, clear eyes, good hair, energetic) then she is getting enough food for her! Although if you are concerned about how much formula she drinks take away any juice and water, it isn't really needed.

As long as she gaining weight and she's in a good place on the curve,(her doctor should discuss that with you) then she's fine. Now that she's starting to crawl she is much more curious and she wears herself out from all the exploring. My daughter is 8 1/2 months and eats a lot less than yours, so I would have to say she's fine.

She is fine. Small babies eat less than the book tells you as well as big babies will eat more. My son who weighed 9 lbs 4oz at birth only was on formula for two weeks before I had to put some rice cereal in it and used a cross cut nipple.

Yes that is OK, as long as she is healthy~don't worry about it. She eats as much as she needs.
What you have read in books are just guide-lines/suggestions: they are not what she has to or necessarily needs to eat. As I said before, as long as she is healthy, don't worry about it! And it sounds like she is healthy~crawling everywhere I imagine~just wait till she walks. She'll get into everything & probably start eating more, but don't worry if she doesn't. Believe me, she'll eat when & what she wants to.
Don't worry about making her eat, just enjoy her while she's little!! Before you know it she'll be grown & gone!

THROW THE BOOKS OUT THE WINDOW... these things are written in generalities, if your child is hungry she will eat and she will let you know when she is hungry. As long as she isn't underweight or not reaching milestones she is fine. In a few months when she hits a growth spurt you won't be able to keep her full....

Every baby is different and will eat when their hungry and sleep when their tired. Don't put too much stock into what the books say "should" be done. Follow your baby's lead, they know exactly what they need.

This is ok as long as she is going enough use the books more as a guide. Also ask your doctor if he or she says the baby is fine then go by that she sounds normal to me. Every baby just like every person is an indivdual.

I would treat that book more as a guide. All baby's are different. As long as you take her to a doctor for her regular check ups and the doc. says everything is OK, Then I would not worry.
