I think all pro athletes are over paid, no matter who they are. Doctors and fire men save our life but a guy who is considered a top athlete gets paid millions? Doesn't make sense to me.

Athletes get paid millions because we are willing to pay thousands to watch them. People buy season tickets, replica jerseys, shoes, etc. As long as we are willing to pay gross amounts of money to watch them, they will continue to get paid.
Look at Tiger Woods. He is the highest paid athlete in the world (for those of you who consider golfers athletes). How many tournaments does he play in a year? Far less than any other sport. And less people go to watch a golf tournament than any other sport. So why is he paid so much? Because his sponsors make a crap load of money off of his endorsements.
Doctors, firemen, even teachers should start using name brand products and getting endorsement deals from the manufacturers. Then they would be making the kind of money that athletes get.

Depends, talentwise probably.
But it is LA, and he's a world wide celebrity. So it may be worth it if it generates any interest in soccer in the US.
I think they expect him to carry an entire sport by himself.

All pro athletes could be seen as grossly overpaid. Not sure why he's taking such a beating over it.... because he's not American???

absolutely. I hope they won't regret it because as far as I'm concerned he USED to be a good player but not anymore so i don't really see how he's going to help American football i think he's going to destroy it instead because he himself is broken goods. i personally would never hire him even if i was richer than Bill gates.

I don't think that they are bringing him in based solely on his talent. It's his name, he is a big name and having him play in the states, they are hoping that it will benefit football, soccer, in america!
