First of all you will need web authoring software - there are too many programs to begin listing them here. I recommend that you find a business or individual that designs sites for a living, they will do a much better job than a beginner.

Second you will need a name for your site and to get it registered with a registrar, again a pro can help you here.

Thirdly, you will need a host or hosting service, again the pro will be your best bet.

Bottom line, if you are asking this question you need assistance and advice from a pro, they can do this for a reasonable cost with no real headache on your part and you will get better results than if you tried to learn all the ins and out of website creation and ongoing support.

I am using a company called Sitesell. This is the very first time I have built a website, so I needed a company who could take me by the hand, step by step!

I have nothing but praise for them! They make EVERYTHING so easy! They supply all of the online training, simple (yet incredibly sophisticated tools) and excellent support.

The cost is just $299 (£170) per year That includes all of the above plus domain registration. They even supply the templates for designing your site! And don't worry about html coding or other techy stuff as that's all taken care of for you!

My site is only 9 months old. It is already very highly ranked by the major search engines and is attracting up to 1000 hits a day! Plus it generates an income which not only covers the costs, but actually shows a healthy profit!

You can get more info from my information page at:

Please feel free to contact me through my site if you would like anymore info or advice.

Best wishes

That is a very general question. There is a lot involved in the process. I don't think you can get a site up and running from the answers you get here. However just as a start:

1) Register a domain,
2) Find a company to maintain your domain (usualy the same company you buy from)
3) Create a site
a)Buy an HTML text book or,
b)Hire some web designer

Good Luck!

I love anything that Google does. Their page creator is excellent, but putting it online will require additional knowledge and coordination.

Yahoo! Domains is also an option at ~$1 to $25+ per month. They take care of the almost all of it for you, and give you great templates from which to start.

I'm not sure about their spellcheckers, though. Good luck!

Depends on your level of Expertise.
Microsoft has a really good Set of Free to Pay for tools at their Office site.
After that, you might want to look at first registering a domain name, shop around for a good, reasonable cost, hosting service, and see if they have Frontpage Extensions; FP is great for easy edit and create, but you might want more... just see what the Host service advises

Try SquareSpace, you have to pay after the free trail, but it's fairly easy, and all of the software is online.
