We currently work 37,5hr week 9 - 5pm with an 1/2 hr lunch break. We are now being forced to work 9 - 5:30pm with a full hour lunch break with no changes to our actual work hours or pay. Effectively we are being made to spend 2,5hrs a week at work unpaid.

you are to get 2 15 minute breaks included in your 8 hours but they can make you work an extra 1/2 hour over your shift they don't have to pay for your lunch break. do what I did eat on your 15 minute breaks and skip the lunch then leave 1/2 early because you didn't take a lunch break. make sure you OK it with your boss first. believe me you can and everyone does find the time in an 8 hour day to sneak in an extra break or to. then if you do work the 81/2 hour days and don't get a lunch because you are too busy then on your time sheet write no lunch and they owe you an extra 1/2 hour pay which will be time in 1/2 if it takes you over 40 hours then they will let you leave early if you don't take a lunch but you could have a boss that will force you to go to lunch. just some options.

It all depends on your contract. But I would have said they could. My work does the same!

Can't see the problem myself, it sounds more than reasonable.
