She is separate from husband he is not really obligated to pay her household bills. It cause a divorce with alimony or child support. I believe that's the only time you can get any money from your ex.

The minute he moved out , if they have kids that is. Tell her to get on to the child support agency, but also tell her that they are really crap at sorting your case out.

She should go and see a solicitor and get advise, its impossible for anyone to give you advise without all the facts
