Go to the same bank that issued the check. It will say it on the check. There may be a fee but you will get the money instantly. Make sure you take 3 forms of I.D. Some banks ask for 2 but you should take the third just in case they don't accept 1 of the first 2.

You need to have an account at that bank in order to cash the check. You will be able to get the cash immediately, but if the check does not clear for some reason, the bank will deduct the $2900 from your account. If you just want to deposit the check, it will take 7-10 days to clear it in order to get the funds.

What type of check is it--personal or company check? If you go to the bank where you have an account, they will be willing to process the check faster. If the check is written on an out of state bank, they would have to verify that the funds are there.

I tired to cash a check one time that was out of state. The bank said that I would have to pay for the phone call to that bank because it was not part of their system. I went to another bank and they said my best bet was to deposit it at my bank, and wait for it to clear.

I think that it depends on what bank that you go to--

larger banks like washington mutual usually holds checks up to 7 days. credit unions hold it about 5 days depending on the bank who issued it. Some banks, by the way allow you to withdraw a little bit from it while you wait to be cleared.

Wow thats a nice litte wad, do you need a best friend laughs! But seriously It depends on the issuer. If its the bank itself you probably could expect immediate results but usually it takes 3-5 business days my friend. And remember patience is a virtue.

depends:

do they know you?

do they know the issuer.

Suggest you inquire first. If there will be a delay, get cheque 'certified'.

Good luck!
