Clomid is a pill that aids in ovulation. It is usually given to the female during infertility treatments to make her ovulate (it is used to correct the problem of females not ovulating). It can also be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment. I was put on Clomid (though I had no problems ovulating) in order to increase the numbers of folicles/eggs I was producing to gain a better chance of getting pregnant (my husband is the problem with a very low number of 'normal/good' sperm)...it increases your odds of a sperm reaching an egg. (more eggs=better chance of one getting fetilized).

There is an increase in teh chances of multiple births (twins, triplets, etc), however the chances of twins is only abotu 13%.

Clomid is usually started off in 50 miligram doses. You take it during your period (usually days 5-9 if I remember correctly). (the first day of your period is day one).

It is generally low in side effects, however I was one of the unlucky people who WAS effected by the side effects. I was a bit off with my hearing ability (certain things sounded loud), and I was a bit jumpy (scared easily). I also got a bit dizzy on it as well. So if you are going to take it, make sure you are abel to see how you react to it before you begin driving or working after takign it.

I know some people who have had infertility problems and sucessfully got pregnant on Clomid after only one or two months on it. However, it usually takes a few 'rounds/cycles/months' to get pregnant. Everyone is different, and it also depends on your specific infertility issues.

I did not achieve pregnancy from Clomid (after 6 months of being on it), so we resulted to a more agressive treatement (daily injections) to get pregnant. But alot of people get pregnant on Clomid!
Good luck.

We have been ttc for 2 years, i had a miscarriage 2 years ago and haven't been pregnant since. My doctor put me on Clomid and this is my 3rd month on it. I have had hot flashes and dizziness and other side effects that are just like PMS. My husband says I'm pretty moody. I am feeling very hopeful about Clomid though. I am just glad that I am taking steps to getting pregnant. I feel like I didn't do anything about it for so long because I was scared that they would tell me something horrible, but now i am glad i am doing something. If you want to get pregnant i suggest that you talk to your obgyn as soon as you can, and don't wait like I did.
Good Luck!

We TTC for 2 years and 11 months, were given one round of 50mg of Clomid and guess what, we are now 10 weeks pregnant with twins!! (Twins run in my family. It is very rare to conceive twins on the 50 mg dose. Our doctors are shocked!) I had a great experience with Clomid. A bit of moodiness and also some hot flashes in the middle of the night. Other than that, no other problems. I ovulated regularly but this seemed to make things work for us. Good luck and baby dust to you!

Well first of all, you cant just go to your regular dr and ask for clomid and they will give it to you.
You need to be seeing an OBGYN or fertility specialist. You also need to have been trying to get pregnant for around a year with no luck (6mths if your over 30yrs old). The dr will perform an HSG on you to see if your tubes are blocked or scarred...he will also ask you to chart your cycles and do ovulation tests to see if your ovulating. And he will also ask your man to do a semen analysis to rule him out as the reason why your not getting pregnant.

Once all that is done and you get the meds, you will take it from either days 3-7 or 5-9 of your cycle. You will then go in for an ultrasound around the time your due to ovulate, to check your folicles, and then 1 week after you ovulate you'll go in for blood work to check your progesterone (which varifies you did ovulate and how strong it it was).
Clomid doesnt always work, I was on it for 5 cycles and it did nothing for me. I was then tested for PCOS and found out I had it. After nearly 3yrs of trying to get pregnant I was put on Metformin and got pregnant my first month on it, with our daughter.
