my sons does this too and i just start tickling him. I hate the sound but love to hear him laugh. My sons seems to do it when he is bored, mostly during car rides.

Most kids do this because they are getting used to the feeling of having teeth in their mouth. It's just a phase and it should pass once he gets used to his teeth.

There really isn't anything you can do to stop it. As with other phases, you just have to let it pass. For older children and adults, you can get teeth guards to protect your teeth when you grind them, but I don't believe you can get them for a 9 month old. Not only would they probably hate it, it's a choking hazard.

I'm sure it'll pass soon..just be patient. He can't really do that much damage to his teeth anyway and even if he does they're just baby teeth.

It's normal for babies to grind their teeth. They are just exploring the teeth since they are new. It will probably stop on it's own witin a few months.
