Either.....A lighter is easier to carry and you do not need to worry about wet matches in case one needs a light or to warm a frozen key. There are so many lighters out there and they can be an expression of ones personality.....Matches or a lighter can be a danger in the hands of a young child...so with either you must be so careful......

I actually prefer lighters, but tend to lose them more often than matches.
AND you can carry safety matches when flying but cannot carry a lighter
