In 1900, the average American paid roughly 5% of their earnings to support local, state and federal government in the form of taxes. There was essentially no public debt. By 2000, that number was up to 33% and most people see no way out from under the massive combined public debts of federal, state and local governments.

In 2005, I authored two alternate proposals that show, in detail, how to first reduce - then eliminate (first public debt - then taxation) debt & taxes at all levels of government. These plans accomplish both of these feats while still providing the funding necessary to pay for government and provide government services. There are literally thousands upon thousands of factors to consider that could/would change the outcome of debt and tax elimination public policy - I only wrote two alternate proposals to show myself/others some of those key differences.

Once all public debt is eliminated taxes can be reduced (while still paying for government) until they are also eliminated and government runs entirely without either debt financing or any form of taxation. In effect, each citizen will recieve a huge payraise when all is said and done. Sound like pie in the sky to you?

The politicians hope you will feel that way. Without you understanding how this works and personally supporting it they will continue to tax and spend us into debt/death just like the proverbial frog in the saucepan on the stovetop being slowly boiled. If you fail to understand the details of how this works future politicians will come along and wipe it all away.

To be certain, this is hardly some fantasy but it is my dream and it eclipses the vision for America that any ordinary politician has for what amounts to your future. It's hardly some overnight sensation. It will require first understanding, then commitment, and finally action by many citizens.

It will happen first in small communities such as school districts and city councils or county governments. Then a state legislature will pick up on this and run with the ball. Finally, it will snowball to the point where Congress takes action.

It will begin to happen faster than most people might percieve at this point. But it will take time. Rome was not built in a day and it took some time for America to get out of shape fiscally. It will take less time for America to rebound into optimum fiscal shape but that time will take less than you might imagine.

This debt and tax elimination public policy alone will do more for the economy than even I can imagine at this point in time. Without hyping it up I can honestly say that it will require a sustained effort by citizens over time. Without that sustained effort other politicians will come along and put us back into the tax and spend mode.

Although I am a Republican, this issue is hardly about party politics. It's an issue about the future of America. There are some folks who want to bankrupt America so that you, but more importantly, your children and grandchildren are completely subserviant to government. I am committed to creating a future where you, as my fellow citizens, have a more prosperous future and more freedom from the trappings of government.

Just to be clear, this public policy proposal of debt and tax elimination policy includes eliminating all forms of taxation such as: income, excise, fuel, sin, death, property, sales, licenses, registrations, tariffs and fees. This list is incomplete but gives some of the more common examples.

The real question you have to ask yourself is why are you allowing politicians to continue to tax you more and more, and spend and borrow more and more, when you could see more of your own money and give yourself, and your children and grandchildren, payraises and receive government services without paying any taxes whatsoever?

A fair tax would ba a sales tax. That way a person could control how much he paid by how much he spent. This would eliminate filing, audits and record keeping. It would maintain our financial privacy. Government would have no reason to know how much money we made, or where we spent it.

The income tax (Sixteenth Amendment) was approved in 1913, the same year that we got the Federal Reserve System. Most Americans don't realize that the Federal Reserve stockholders (which are the big banks) actually make money every time govenment runs a defecit. They are paid interest on government bonds for every federal reserve note (that's your current dollar) they produce. Since there was no mechanism to the federal government to take in sufficient revenues to pay the Federal Reserve, it was necessary to institute an income tax.

Since 1913, we have been involved in WW1, WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, and Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as various small skirmishes. We now have a tremendous national debt, measured in the trillions of dollars. About 30% of federal expenditures go to pay the INTEREST on this debt.

Can you imagine being in debt so far that 30% of your monthly income was required to pay the interest on that debt? That is what our politicians have done to us.

The stockholders of the Federal Reserve - the big banks are making trillions of dollars on the interest paid on treasury bonds. And Congress and the Administrations keep spending like drunken sailors, putting the American people farther into debt.

1. I have not been informed on the Fair Tax
2. My county/town sucks at informing its voters when to vote on propositions
3. I have to go to obscure locations 30 minutes away to vote because my town sucks
4. vast majority do not even vote for presidential elections, why would they vote for a single issue?
Just a few ideas, seriously I have not heard anything on the Fair Tax. Is it a local issue or a national one?

there is positives and negatives to all things. Usually when something has a name like this the intent is the Opposite. Like by raising the Tax on Clothes in NY everyone went to New Jersey to Buy clothes. NY businesses lost out and laid people off did not take loans for expansion so banks moved out, etc etc

sure i'd. The FairTax is a honest, powerful, clear, and sensible answer to the sadness and inequity of our present day tax equipment. it would want to do such issues as: -Abolish the IRS -close loopholes in the tax equipment -enable workers and retirees to save all their pay cheks and pension

Gee, we have to think about all those IRS employees and accountants and tax lawyers. They'll actually have to find real jobs and do something productive for a living.
