Lord, the world lol. I have a five month old too and she loves watching the t.v. too. I suggest sitting down with your baby and finding something good to watch that you think will be of benefit to him. I allow my baby girl to watch Nick Jr. and Nogin. Early in the mornings there seem to be plenty of preschool shows for you to pick from. I even brought her a V Smile V tech Baby which is connected to the T.V. Watching t.v. has been said to make you lazy etc...but if you think he likes it, why not try and get something out of it. Another suggestion is if you don't want him watching the T.V. at all read to him... get a brightly colored picture book and point things out to him, let him look and touch at the pages...good luck with whatever you decide. :)

No, as long as it isn't an all day thing. Maybe a show or two a day would be just fine. When my daughter was 5 months old she couldn't sit still! I did let her watch some TV but she lost interest very quickly. All kids are different. Just make sure your son has plenty of other activites to do also!( As I am sure you know that already!) Hope this helps.

i worry about this the mom of a 4 month old, b/c he LOVES the TV. he'll sit fascinated by the big glowing box for a long time if i let him. we try to keep him facing away from the tv, but once he gets a glimpse he just zeroes in on it.
i let him to an extent. like, if we having a pizza and a movie night, then i'll let him watch while i eat. then, i'll turn him around to play.
we try to keep him in his room to play with toys or even just facing us in the living room when we hold him, but that's not always possible.
i wouldn't worry about it too much as long as he doesn't sit there all day. we have a few baby einstein videos that we let him watch, though. they aren't as fast as regular tv and movies and they have cute sound effects and funny puppets and pictures.
take care:)

He's too young to have him watching for too long. I'd only let him watch for 10 minutes a day -- maybe enough for you to get something done like a shower or dishes or something. Too much TV reduces the ability of children to interact with the real world. Studies also have shown that children who watch a lot of TV when they are developing their hearing and speech skills have delayed speech and a poor ability to decifer when someone is actually talking to them or if its background noise from the TV. Concentration levels are lower and irratibility is higher in a lot of children who spend a lot of time in front of the boob tube.

The American Acadamy of Pediatrics (AAP) actually recommends NO TV at all before the age of two. Here's an excerp from an article on the AAP web site:
"For older children, high-quality TV programs can have benefits. However, for younger children it's a very different story. The first two years of life are especially important in the growth and development of your child's brain. During this time, children need good, positive interaction with other children and adults to develop good language and social skills. Learning to talk and play with others is far more important than watching television.
Until more research is done about the effects of TV on very young children, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend television for children younger than two years of age. For older children, the AAP recommends no more than one to two hours per day of quality screen time. "

I would say that 30 years old is too young to watch TV. Who do you know who has been improved and enlightened by watching T.V.? If I had a youngster in the house (and I used to ) I would feel I had a duty to the Almighty not to have a T.V. in the house. Or at least never to tune it to a channel, but to keep it only for good tapes (or dvd's). T.V. is fascinating-- hypnotizing...

I believe that the "expert" advice is not to let anyone under two years old watch tv, for whatever reason, but no one listens to that. You should buy him the "Baby Einstein" videos for his age group, they allegedly educational for him and they might be more interesting.

yes i think he is because his eyes are not fully matured yet. meaning that by him following movements on the t.v and the t.v flashing all the time could hurt his eyes in the long run. i wouldnt let him watch t.v very long.

I don't think so. Just make sure that you keep that kind of stimulation to a minimum and stimulate him with other things in between.
