If your having problems starting in cold weather or after the car has set unused for a couple days are good signs that you might be having problems with your battery but if you take it to any local auto parts store they can test your battery for little or nothing i know my local one will do it for free so thats the best way and if its bad your at the right place to pick up a new one and turn the old one in

Hey there,
Well, when to replace the battery is driven by a few things.
How much risk do you want to take that it might die on you?
How much money do you have on hand?
How old it is?
How it tests?

You can get it tested for free some places, and some have a little window that shows a green light/ color if it is still good.

If you live somewhere warm, your battery will last you a lot longer than in really cold places. In the winter if it is really cold, your battery has way way less charge and will not start your car if it is "weak/old". IN a warm climate, you would start the car, and it would last longer.

So, is the battery still starting up the vehicle? likely so or you would not ask.

then the questions are:

Is the battery older than 5 years or whatever is 2/3 the warranty on the battery? If so, then you might just be on the edge. Replace if you have the chance or $$.

IF you leave your lights on for even a few minutes, do you need a jumpstart? then your battery needs replacement.

Fine on warm days, crap on cold?
Same thing, replace.

My car's battery lasted about 4 1/2 years - I had got the car new and the battery was original equipment. The battery finally died during what would be the 2005-06 winter season. I was unable to get the car to start, nor would it hold a charge when we tried to jump start the car.

So I would recommend checking it after about three years to see how well its holding up. If you're having problems getting the car to start or having other problems I'd get the car checked out right away. I'm not sure what climate you're living in, but where I'm at its pretty cold out right now and you don't want a car that's stubborn about starting where I'm at.

If your car seems to have trouble starting up. If your headlights seem to be dimmer than usual. Also if your battery light inside your car comes on. These problems could also be alternator related.
