My current thermostat appears to have 3 wires (and no earth?) marked 1, 2 and 3. 1 goes to live while 2 and 3 both go to neutral. Only difference between 2 and 3 is that they go either side of a resistor according to the diagram.

Would this be easy to wire to a 2-wire digital thermostat or do I need to swap like-for-like?

Hope someone can help!

Swap like for like. There is not enough information to tell me what is going on there. Is this 24 VDC? Is the new part compatible with the old part? Same make and model? Far easier to get HVAC maint man there to look at make sure.....

Check at the business end (hearing unit) you will probably find that one of the 2 wires on the same terminal is not being used, normaly there is a RED, WHITE and sometimes a 'GREEN" which is fan only for a compatable unit, if so its the red and white wire that are used, the thermostat is really only a switch.

Hi. Read the advice that Jayktee has written. Some thermostats do not work without a neutral ( like a TP own brand ), this can be awkward if you only have twin and earth cable. Good luck and work safe. Do not use the earth for any other purpose but an earth!
