Each provider, weather cable or sat has different channel packages. In some cases, getting cable is not possible due to location so satellite is the only option.
I've had both and I prefer the picture quality of DirecTv over digital cable from Comcast, however the main problem with satellite, in my opinion is that they force you into a 2 year contract whereas with cable you are generally month to month.
It used to be that Satellite was cheaper than cable, but when you compare similar channel packages, the pricing is very similar.
Taking that all into consideration I would choose Cable unless you are ok with a 2 year commitment.

i like cable better. they both have pretty much the same channels, there is a little bit of a price difference but not much. i used to live in a place where we could not get cable so we had directv--i hated it because every time it would rain or some dark clouds were over our house the satellite would lose signal and we were left witout tv until it could find the signal again.

I personally go with satellite. You get more channel selection for your money and they don't raise the rates as often as most cable companies.

You're going on holiday and you're making your decision based on what TV channels you will receive? That's pretty sad!

it's the better of the two
