Always go to a doctor for broken bones. How do you know it is broken if not with an X-ray? It could be jammed. Your finger must not bend until it heals. You want the bones set properly, so your finger is straight. You can pay the doctor month by month. Ask for help from your parents. They will likely pay the bill.

I know someone who busted her knee. She told me that she first had on a plaster cast, and, when she visited her brother he made an appointment for her to see a sports orthopedic doctor who gave her a more flexible cast. You will not necessarily get a plaster cast, IOW. BTW, her doctor was the one who takes care of the OSU football players.

I have to add this, there is a chance of infection. Someone I know, had a rare bacteria, and needed a special doctor for antibiotics, and, yes, of a finger. Who knows where the bacteria came from. It was around the bone fracture, and the bone had to be scraped clean of the granules, and then the meds.

Count your blessings.

Any broken bone can cause nerve damage if a nerve is pinched in the break of the bone. That is not very common though and if you broke it bad enough that it needed to be set, chances are you will not be gripping a golf club or bowling anytime soon. More than likely, there is some swelling still around the break and when you bend the finger it is putting pressure on the nerve or arteries/veins in your finger that causes the numbness. Flex your hands frequently making sure you work the broken finger (if it is healed) almost to the point where you can not stand it. The body is amazing at fixing things and the more you cause blood flow to the finger the better it will be. If the finger is not crooked or deformed from the break, you should heal fine. If it is numb all the time, you need to see a doc.

Yes, it can pinch a nerve, or a blown joint capsule can be cutting off the blood. If you have money for greens fees, you might consider scrapping up the dough for an x-ray. You may need to get it rebroken. That is kind of a pain, but pain meds are cheap.

Fingers are very important. If the finger was broken the bone has probably began to knit and will have to be broken and reset.
But do it. if you do not you could have something called a dropped finger, and this will never straighten out. It looks very strange when you extend your hand to shake hands. More important, arthritis may set in, in years to come in this finger

You can afford golf at a sqanky club but not to get tape to tape one finger to another? Leave that way for six weeks

yes, if you never got it set or actually x-rayed it may be more than broken, if its pressing on nerves or cutting off blood supply u will get the tingles in it and numbness.
